Christmas in July

Meet Annie Boss (yes, that's her real last name!), one of the most joyful, smiley, caring, loving, and powerful human beings that I've ever met...

"I was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma in my left foot, just six years after I had lost my dad to his short battle with chondrosarcoma. I was diagnosed at the very end of my first year of my masters program in physician assistant studies. I spent last summer undergoing radiation treatment, and ended the summer with a tumor resection surgery. I was lucky enough to meet Maddie, the founder of STW, at a young adult cancer retreat in MT in between radiation and surgery. She was the first person in the cancer community that I had met that I can relate to. And I have no doubt that God placed us on that particular trip together for a reason. My post surgical healing did not go as planned, and ended up spending the majority of November and December in the hospital, undergoing six separate surgeries. I almost lost my foot on numerous occasions, but as I write this, I’m (FINALLY) walking on my own two feet. It has been a whirlwind year, but I’m finally starting to feel like myself again."

In December of last year, we reached out to Annie's boyfriend to see what we could do to help him gift her the best Christmas morning...

"I found out about the trap that Spark the Way was gifting me with on Christmas morning. My boyfriend knows how much my relationships with my cousin, Jesse, and my two godson’s, Tucker and Wyatt, mean to me, so when STW reached out to ask him how they could help, he pointed them in the right direction, and they started planning this trip for me. In addition, they paid off one of my largest medical bills. My eyes were filled with tears of gratitude for the majority of Christmas morning. Having the trip to look forward too while I was still bedridden was the biggest pick me up I ever could’ve dreamed of."

Annie's favorite moments trip moments...

"There were so many moments on this trip where I caught myself thinking “I am so happy that this is where life has brought me, cancer and all.” Probably my favorite moment of all was being able to be there when my cousin’s husband arrived home from his nine-month deployment. The other really special part of this trip, was that my boyfriend, Barrett, was able to fly out for the last weekend that I was there. He was able to finally meet some of the most important people in my life, and they were able to meet the man who got me through treatment. We spent the time that he was out there shopping at local farmers markets, drinking homemade wine, loving on my godsons, walking on the beach, and swimming in the ocean (for the first time since my surgery!) and watching every sunset we could catch. One day, will tell our children about this trip. My heart is still exploding with happiness. Thank you for this endless gift, STW!"
